READ THE STEPS BELOW
In summary, prospective members must attend the
informational meeting and submit an application on
time in order to be considered for NHS.
Students that miss any of the steps below will
not be eligible for NHS this year.
STEP 1 - AttendWelcome! If you are interested in learning more about, and potentially applying to join, Cary High School's chapter of National Honor Society, you must attend the informational meeting that will take place on Tuesday, September 5 in the school Cafeteria from 2:30 - 3:00 PM.
Why do potential members need to attend a meeting in order to apply? The NHS application is significantly larger and more complicated that most organizations at CHS, so we will walk everyone through the entire process. It is imperative that you clear your schedule now and plan to attend this meeting.

STEP 2 - ApplyThe application that you will receive at the interest meeting is comprised of six parts. The most common errors that we see on applications occur because students do not read the instructions. Take the time to sit down and read your application word-for-word before you begin.
Several parts of the application require input from others; make sure you do not procrastinate so that you do not run out of time. Are you stuck? Do you have questions? Click on the contacts page on the menu above and reach out to one of the organization's sponsors. |
STEP 3 - SubmitApplications are due on Friday, September 15 by the conclusion of lunch (12:50 PM) and will be turned in to Room 2210. Early applications are allowed and encouraged.
All six parts of the application must be placed in a single mailing envelope that is 8.5" x 11" or larger. Neatly write your full name (last, first) and grade level (12 or 11) on the exterior of the envelope. Prospective members are required to supply their own mailing envelope. Late applications will not be accepted. |
CONGRATULATIONS!
If you have finished all of these steps, you will be considered for entry into the National Honor Society.

Scoring ApplicationsCompleted applications are scored by an anonymous faculty council. Do not cater any part of your application for the sponsors as they will not be on the council. Represent yourself well in your application because there is no guarantee that the council members will know you.
This is another reason that all prospective members must attend the interest meeting and submit an application on time. The fact that we use a large council to score 125-175 applications over the course of several weeks means that we are unable to facilitate late applicants for any reason. |
Tapping DayThe eight NHS officers will visit second period classes (tentatively) on Tuesday, October 10. They will "tap" applicants who have been accepted into NHS and invite them to attend our Induction Ceremony.
How many applicants will be accepted and tapped? We do not have a quota, which means that prospective members are not in competition with each other. Additionally, GPA is not taken into consideration as long as it meets the minimum requirement (i.e. a student with a 4.5 GPA does not have an advantage over a student with a 3.8). Any juniors that do not get tapped are welcome and encouraged to ask the sponsors how they can improve and reapply during their senior year. |
Induction CeremonyInductions will take place on Tuesday, October 24 from 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the CHS Auditorium. This is a semiformal event hosted by the current officers and members for all inductees and their families.
Applicants and families, go ahead and put this date on your calendar! |
